Copenhagen: Voted World's Best City to Live In – And an Even Better One to Visit

For the second year in a row, Copenhagen has been named the world's most liveable city, topping The Economist Intelligence Unit's Global Liveability Index ahead of Vienna, Melbourne, Sydney and Zurich. The ranking looked at 173 cities worldwide, scoring them on stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure – and Copenhagen took the maximum score in three of those categories.

For golfers planning a golf holiday in Denmark, that's not just a nice headline. It's exactly the reason Copenhagen makes such an easy, rewarding base for a golf trip.

A capital built for comfort, not chaos

Copenhagen's top scores for stability and infrastructure translate directly into a stress-free travel experience: a compact airport just 15 minutes from the city centre, reliable public transport, and a walkable, bikeable capital where nothing important feels far away. Combine that with some of the best golf courses near Copenhagen, most within 30–40 minutes of the city, and you get a golf holiday where the logistics simply disappear – more time on the fairway, less time in transit.

Long summer light, world-class golf

Denmark's golf season runs from April to October, but it's the Nordic summer that makes Copenhagen golf trips genuinely special: daylight lingering until nearly 11 PM in June means late afternoon tee times feel like the middle of the day. Play a round at Copenhagen Golf Club, where wild deer graze the fairways of Dyrehaven, or tee it up at The Scandinavian, one of the only clubs in Europe with two courses ranked in the continent's top 50 – and still have time for dinner in town afterwards.

A city that rewards curiosity after the round

The Liveability Index singled out Copenhagen's culture, environment and quality of life – and that's exactly what turns a golf trip into a proper holiday. Spend the day on the course, then let a short transfer take you back into the city for an evening exploring Nyhavn's colourful harbourfront, a Michelin-starred New Nordic restaurant, or one of Copenhagen's rooftop bars with views across the city's copper-green roofs. It's a rare combination: a capital city with world-class golf on its doorstep, and a laid-back, liveable pace that never feels rushed.

Why it matters for your golf holiday

Liveability rankings are usually built for residents, not tourists – but the ingredients are the same ones that make a destination easy to love as a visitor: safety, cleanliness, good food, green spaces, and a sense that everything simply works. Add in some of Northern Europe's finest golf courses, and it's easy to see why international golfers keep coming back to Copenhagen year after year.
