New 5-Star Hotel Opens at Great Northern

Great Northern has opened a new hotel building with 52 rooms and suites, taking the resort from 15 to 67 rooms in total — seamlessly integrating nature, sustainability, and Danish design excellence.

On 22 June 2026, Great Northern opened the doors to its new hotel wing, marking the next step in the development of the resort in Kerteminde, Funen. With 52 new rooms and suites added to the existing property, Great Northern now offers 67 rooms in total — opening the door for more guests to enjoy stays, relaxation, spa, gastronomy, meetings, nature experiences, and quality time together within the resort's distinctive setting.

For guests, the expansion above all means a greater opportunity to stay longer and experience the resort at their own pace. With 67 rooms, more guests can now combine everything Great Northern has to offer, while the calm and sense of immersion that lie at the heart of the resort's DNA remain fully intact.

The expansion was therefore never just about adding volume — it was about creating even greater coherence in the guest experience. This philosophy extends to the spa as well, where capacity remains deliberately limited to 30 guests at a time, preserving the tranquillity, intimacy, and sense of immersion the spa is known for.

"Great Northern isn't meant to be experienced in just one way. Some come for the calm, the nature, and the spa. Others for the golf, the food, the meeting, or the company. What matters to us is that guests feel welcome, at ease, and have the time to truly feel the place," says Peer Rysgaard, CEO of Great Northern.

Great Northern

Something Completely New, Yet Still Familiar

The new hotel integrates closely with Great Northern's existing buildings and landscape. The new rooms have been built as a natural extension of the resort's architecture and surroundings, with a clear focus on materials, calm, and connection to nature — ensuring the rooms feel like a fully integrated part of the overall experience.

Nature has always played a leading role at Great Northern, and this is only reinforced in the new hotel wing, where everything is arranged to heighten the experience of the natural surroundings. The hotel's design lies like a tensioned arch embracing the landscape, allowing nature to come close and become an integrated part of the stay.

In keeping with the resort's commitment to sustainability, the quality of materials found throughout Great Northern continues into the new building — though several have been replaced with options offering a more sustainable profile. All new visible materials are drawn directly from nature's own palette: primarily wood, clay, and natural stone. Every material has been chosen for its durability and its ability to patinate beautifully over time, as well as its repairability — extending the lifespan of the building considerably.

52 Rooms & Suites

Each of the 52 new hotel rooms and suites offers a wide, uninterrupted view of the surrounding landscape. Here, "undisturbed" is the keyword — both physically and mentally. The interior design is built around maximum openness toward the landscape, creating a strong sense of nature, light, and spaciousness throughout.

Every room has been shaped around the experience itself, with well-proportioned, generous spaces designed for comfort. Ceiling and floor lines continue seamlessly from room to room, so that each function appears to "borrow" space from the next — both indoors and outdoors.

A New Chapter for Great Northern

The opening of the new hotel wing also marks the beginning of a new phase for Great Northern. In August, the resort will unveil its new Great Northern Performance concept, focused on movement, recovery, physical vitality, and balance — a natural extension of the spa's existing universe.

Adjacent to the new hotel building stands the standalone Gallery building, which will house an upcoming gastronomic addition to Great Northern's current restaurant concept. The ambition here is to create a new dining experience rooted in Great Northern's distinctive setting — further strengthening the resort's position as a complete destination.

Since opening in 2017, Great Northern has drawn guests from Denmark and abroad with its golf course, spa, meetings, events, gastronomy, and natural surroundings by Kerteminde. With the new rooms now open, even more guests can stay longer — and experience more of Great Northern, Kerteminde, and Funen.
